We can do better than we are doing now and we must do better. Too many people are suffering in poverty, hunger and sickness in the richest land in the world! That is immoral.
Government is not the solution to every problem but we can solve great problems by working together to improve and direct our government! We must not allow it to be dismantled and destroyed by those who see some invisible hand of the free market as a moral guide to a free society because it has proven to be the exact opposite!
I want a country where every person can go to work and build a better life for themselves and their families with rising wages that fairly compensate them for the investment of their limited healthy working years and a reliable retirement for the years thereafter.
I want a country where we use our government and community based nonprofit organizations to protect us from shady business predators or corrupt officials who lie, steal, and cheat because they are so big and powerful they think they can get away with it.
I want a country where our children, our privacy and right to assemble to organize in business or show dissent of our government, is all protected more than the special interests of the rich and powerful are.
I want to live in a country where the free press is free of corporate or government influence, tells the people what those in power don't want us to know because it may embarrass them or cost them money, and asks people in power important questions without letting them evade giving answers.
I invite you to write your own list of what you want to see for the future of our country and share it with your friends and maybe a Mayor or Congress member or two! If you are a Republican voter you may not like all of my list or view of the role of government. That's fine. But if you have an idea of how to create wide spread economic growth, reduce poverty and create fair access to opportunity and affordable health care please suggest it show examples of where these ideas are creating good results.
Optimally we should seek to create solutions that are based on evidence of what is or has worked to produce the best results for the most people and our planet.
If we only or even mostly focus on what we dislike and do not want we will not get the work done to create something better.
